Red Oak is a city in Ellis County, Texas, United States. It is part of the DallasFort Worth metroplex. The population was 10,769 at the 2010 census, up from 4,301 at the 2000 census. The North Central Texas Council of Governments projects that number to grow to 63,329 by the year 2030. Red Oak was one of the exterior locations for filming True Stories, directed by David Byrne of Talking Heads and released in 1986. The Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad began near the Red Oak area in 1884 and was completed in 1890. In 1949, Red Oak became an incorporated town of Ellis, County. The city of Red Oak jointly owns the Ferris Red Oak Muni Heliport together with the city of Ferris. The Red Oak Independent School District operates the K12 Red Oak campus. Texas State Technical College operates a branch campus in Red Oak. The school district also operates a public charter school, Life School, which operates a K12 Life School campus. It has a total area of 15.0 square miles (38.8 km²), all of it land. The climate in this area is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, RedOak has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps. RedOak is 18 miles (29 km) south of downtown Dallas via Interstate 35E, which has two exits in the city.

History

Red Oak is the primary city name, but also Glenn Heights, Oak Leaf, Ovilla are acceptable city names or spellings. The official name is Red Oak, Texas. The Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad began near the Red Oak area in 1884 and was completed in 1890. The railroad allowed people to travel to Dallas and Waco. In 1949, Red Oak became an incorporated town of Ellis, County. Before Red Oak was given its name in 1849, it was known as Possum Trot due to the animal that lived there. Red Oak is located in Ellis County, Texas, near the border with Oklahoma. It is located on the Texas-Oklahoma border and is about two miles from Ovilla, Texas. The Red Oak and Ovilla areas of Ellis County were once part of the same county, but now they are separate. The town of Ovilla was founded in 1844 by James E. Patton, who settled in what is now known as Ovilla. The Ovilla area was once known as Red Oak, and the name was given to the town by James Patton in 1848. The name Red Oak came from the red oak tree, which was found in the area in the late 1800s and early 1900s. It was named for the red Oak Oak, which is located near the town of Red Oak. The area is also known as the Ovilla River, which runs through the center of the town and is located two miles north of the city of RedOak. The final game was held on September 14, 2014, against the University of Texas at San Antonio. The game was a blowout victory for the Texans, who won the game by a score of 6-1. The next game was played on September 15, 2014. It was the first time the city had been involved in a World Series game since the 1988-1989 season. It is the first World Series appearance by a Texas team member since the 1998-99 season. In the game, Texas State College of Education students were allowed to take part in the game.
