O'Fallon

As of the 2020 census, O'Fallon had a population of 91,316, making it the largest suburb of St. Louis, as well as the largest municipality in St. Charles County and the seventh-largest in Missouri. The community was named by Krekel's older brother, Judge Arnold Krekel, after John O' fallon, the president of the North Missouri Railroad. The St. Mary's Institute of O'fallon was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. In 2006, Money magazine named O' Fallon 39th in its "Best 100 Places to Live" and ranked it 68th out of 100 in 2008, 26th in 2010, and 42nd in 2017. The city has a total area of 29.20 square miles (75.63 km²), of which 29.19 square miles are land and 0.01 square miles of land is covered by water. Air Evac Lifeteam, a medical helicopter service for the rural areas of the Ozarks, moved its headquarters to O’Fallon in 2015. The River City Rascals independent Frontier League baseball team played at CarShield Field in O‘Fallon until 1999. The organization ceased operations in 1999 and now play at the CarShield Collegiate League stadium near downtown. The Zumwaltna Park is a 6-acre park featuring a fishing lake, a disc golf course, and historic Fort Alligator’s Creek Center, a bandstand and amphitheater.

History

O'Fallon was founded in 1856 by Nicholas Krekel. The community was named by Krekel's older brother, Judge Arnold Krekel, after John O-Fallon, the president of the North Missouri Railroad. The St. Mary's Institute of O' fallon was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. In 2006, Money magazine named O'fallon 39th in its "Best 100 Places to Live" and ranked it 68th out of 100 in 2008. In 2010, the magazine ranked the community 26th and 42nd in its list of 100 best places to live in the U.S. It was ranked 68th in 2008, 26th in 2010, and 42rd in 2017. The post office has been in operation since 1859 with its first postmaster being Nicholas Kreke. The town is located on the Missouri River, which runs through the center of the town. It has a population of about 2,000, with the majority of its residents living in or near the town center. It is located near the intersection of Interstate 70 and I-70-70, which is about 20 miles north of St. Louis, and the Missouri Turnpike, which goes through the town to the west. The city's population is about 1,500. It also has a small airport, which was built in the early 1900s to serve the growing population of the area. O' Fallon was named for John O'Fall on, the President of the N.M.R. Railroad.

Economy

Mastercard has a major presence in O'Fallon. Air Evac Lifeteam, a medical helicopter service for the rural areas of the Ozarks, moved its headquarters to O' fallon in 2015. Venture Stores was headquartered and maintained a distribution center in O’ fallon, until its dissolution. The buildings are now occupied by True Manufacturing. The city is home to the Missouri State Fair, which runs from May to October each year. The fair is open to the public and is free of charge. It is also free to attend if you are in the state of Missouri or the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Sports

The Rascals played at CarShield Field in O'Fallon, which was built in 1999. It is located on Tom Ginnever Boulevard and T.R. Hughes Boulevard near downtown. The organization ceased operations after the 2019 season. The O' fallon Hoots and the CarShield Collegiate League now play at the stadium. It was the home of the River City Rascal independent Frontier League baseball team, which played in the Frontier League from 1999 to 2002. The team was known as the O'fallon Rascaleds and played in a league called the Rascale's Frontier League. The Rascales were based in the city's downtown area, but moved to O' Fallon after the 2002 season. They were known for their hard-nosed approach to the game, which included a lot of on-the-field physical activity. They played in an independent league that played in three different leagues, including the Midwest League and the American Midwest League, which also played in Kansas City, Missouri, and the Kansas City suburb of Killeen, Kansas. The club was known for its hard-working, no-nonsense style. It also played a number of charity events, including a charity baseball game in which the team raised money for the local hospital, the Children's Hospital of Kansas City. The hospital was also known as "The Children's Home" and was founded in the 1950s by a woman who later became a mother. It has since been named after her.

Parks and recreation

O'Fallon has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen Cfa) Summers are hot and humid, while winters are moderately cold. The city is home to the Renaud Spirit Center and Ozzie Smith Sports Complex. It also has a number of parks and recreation facilities. The town is located on the Ohio River, which runs through the center of the city. It has a population of around 3,000. As of April 2021, the city council members are Dave Hinman, Deana Smith, Tom Herweck, Lisa Thompson, Dale Kling, Nathan Bibb, Jeff Kuehn, Jim Ottomeyer, Debbie Cook and Katie Gatewood. In January 2022, councilwoman Gatewood made regional headlines by being the first elected official in O' fallon to be impeached and removed from office. She was accused of impeding the duties of the police chief and lying to the Council about the identity of a whistleblower. In 2010, the current four wards were redistricted, and a new, fifth ward was created. The city council is made up of 11 members. The mayor is the current mayor, William " Bill" Hennessesy. The City Council is made of 10 members, including the mayor and the mayor-elect. The councilwoman-elect is Katie Gate Wood. The Mayor-elect-to-be is Katie gatewood, who was impeached in January 2022 for allegedly impeding police chief duties and lying about a whistleblower's identity. She is the first woman to be elected to the City Council in the city's history, and the first to do so in a non-presidential election. The Council has a majority of African-American members, with seven of the 10 members coming from African-Americans, the majority of whom are from the South.

Education and libraries

O'Fallon is served mostly by the Fort Zumwalt School District. Satellite campuses of Webster University and Lindenwood University are located in the city. The city is served by the St. Charles City-County Library system, which has three branches in the area, two standard (Deer Run and Middendorf-Kredell) and one "express" location (Library Express at Winghaven). The city has two high schools: St. Dominic High School and Christian High School, both of which are private Catholic schools. It is home to the Missouri State Museum, which was founded in 1858. The Missouri State Highway System was established in 1859. The state highway system was established by the state of Missouri in 1854. It was the first highway to be built in the state, and the first to cross the Mississippi River. The Mississippi River, which runs through the city, was also the first waterway to be constructed in the U.S., dating back to 1855. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is the city's oldest newspaper, and was published from 1852 to 1883. It has published more than 2,000 articles since its publication in 1881. It published its first issue in 1883, and has published over 1,000 more since then. The last issue of the magazine was published in 1885. The first issue was published on April 1, 1886. The second issue was printed on April 2, 1886, and it was published again on April 3, 1887, and April 4, 1891.

Infrastructure

The O'Fallon Fire Protection District became the first internationally accredited fire agency in Missouri in 2007. The western portion of the city is served by the Wentzville Fire protection District. The eastern portion ofthe city is serving by Central County Fire Rescue. The far southwestern portion of. the city has been served by New Melle Fire Districts. The Lake Saint Louis Fire District has been serving the city since the 1970s. It was the first fire district to be accredited by the Center for Public Safety Excellence's Commission on Fire Accreditation International. The agency has approved accreditation status for only 120 fire agencies worldwide. The city is within the jurisdiction of multiple agencies, but fire protection is mostly provided by the O' fallon Fire protection district. The O'fallon Fire District is the only fire district in the state of Missouri to be internationally accredited. It has been in existence since the 1950s, when it was founded. The district is the first to be approved for accreditation by the center for public safety Excellence's commission on fireAccreditation International, and the first in Missouri. It is also the only agency to be granted accreditation for all of the state's fire districts. It also has the highest fire protection rating in Missouri, with an accreditation rate of 98.5 out of a possible 100. The fire district is located in the city's central business district, which has a population of more than 100,000. The area is also served by several other fire districts, including the Cottleville Fire Protection district and the New MelLE Fire District.
