Corinth was founded in 1853 as Cross City, so-called because it served as a junction for the Mobile & Ohio and Memphis & Charleston railroads. Confederate General P. G. T. Beauregard retreated to Corinth after the Battle of Shiloh (April 1862), pursued by Union Major General Henry W. Halleck. The Second Battle of Corinth took place on October 34, 1862, when Confederate Maj. Earl Van Dorn attempted to retake the city. It is the county seat of Alcorn County, which is the smallest county by area in the state of Mississippi. The city has a total area of 30.3 square miles (78.1 km²), of which 30.2 squaremile (78 km²) is land and 0.12 square mile (0.3km²), or 0.43%, is water. It lies on the state line with Tennessee, on the Mississippi-Tennessee state line. It has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen: Cfa), with frequent and frequent and regular and frequent snow gusts. It was the town's early newspaper editor, W. E. Gibson, who suggested its current name for the city of Corinth in Greece that also served as an important railroads crossroads during the American Civil War. History
Corinth is the primary city name, but also Farmington, Kossuth are acceptable city names or spellings, Biggersville, Kendrick, Wenasoga on the other hand no longer accepted or obsolete and are no longer used as a designation. The official name is Corinth, Mississippi. Corinth was founded in 1853 as Cross City, so-called because it served as a junction for the Mobile & Ohio and Memphis & Charleston railroads. Confederate General P. G. T. Beauregard retreated to Corinth after the Battle of Shiloh (April 1862), pursued by Union Major General Henry W. Halleck. The action has been known as the Siege of Corinth. The Second Battle of Corinth took place on October 34, 1862, when Confederate Maj. Gen. Earl Van Dorn attempted to retake the city. The city's location at the junction of two railroads made it strategically important to the Confederacy during the American Civil War. It was the town's early newspaper editor, W. E. Gibson, who suggested its current name for the city of Corinth in Greece that also serve as a crossroads. The town is on the National Register of Historic Places, as well as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the National Park Service. It is home to the Coliseum Theatre, a Colonial Revival-style theatre built in the early 20th century in the Colonial Revival style, and the Midtown Corinth Historic District, which includes the Bynum House, a home in the Late Gothic Revival style built in late 19th century. It also includes the Fort Robinette (also known as Battery Robinette) site of the Civil War Interpretive Center, which was built in mid-19th century, and a prehistoric Native American site from 3000 to 3500 B.C.
Geography
Corinth is located in northeast Mississippi at the intersection of (north/south) U.S. Route 45 and (east/west) U.-S.Route 72. It is the county seat of Alcorn County, which is the smallest county by area in the state of Mississippi. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 30.3 square miles (78.4 km²) of which 30.2 square miles is land and 0.3 km², or 0.43%, is water. The city is home to the University of Mississippi at Corinth, which was founded in 1883. The university is located on the Mississippi River, which runs through the center of the city. It also has a branch campus in Corinth, Mississippi, which dates back to the 18th century. It was the site of the first recorded African-American settlement in the area in 1881. The town is located near the junction of the Mississippi and Tennessee rivers, which run through the southern part of the county. It has a population of 2,816. The county seat is Alcorn, which has an estimated population of 1,822. The state's largest city, Corinth, is located just to the south of the town, near the town of Selmer, Tennessee, on the Tennessee-Mississippi border.

Easom High School (the only African American school in the city before desegregation; Became home of South Corinth Elementary School teaching 5th and 6th Grade until the 2009-2010 school year, when it ceased to be used until 2014 when a health clinic opened in the building) Alcorn School District: Alcorn Alternative School, Alcorn Central Elementary, Biggersville High School, Kossuth Elementary, Corinth Public Library. Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center (part of the National Park Service) Museum of Southern Culture: Black History Museum and Shop. Corinth Public Library is part of the Northeast Regional Library System (Northeast Mississippi Museum) The city is home to the Corinth Public School District and the Corinth High School District. The city also has a number of private schools, including Corinth Middle and High Schools and a private elementary and high school. The town is also home to several museums and shops, such as theArtist Guild Museum and the Black History museum and the Museum of Southern Culture. It is located in the Corinth School District, which also includes the Corinth Alternative School and the Alcorn Elementary District. The school district also has the Corinth Central Middle School, which was built in the early 1900s. It was the first African American high school in Corinth, and was the only one in the area before the integration of the city in the 1960s. The district has a total of nine schools. The schools are:Corinth High School-grades 912 with an enrollment of 473, Corinth Middle School- grades 58 with anrollment of 265, and Biggergersville Elementary grades K6 with an enrollment of 161.
